Ortessa Groep B.V. (holding company of Van Kaathoven, Rondo, Lammertyn.net, Langezaal, Huiskamp, BR Containers and Valor) is launching a collaboration with Code for Good to accelerate its digital transformation. Through an innovative Vision AI solution, both parties aim to enable smarter classification of waste streams, preserve material value, and reduce manual sorting processes.
The collaboration will start at Langezaal’s sorting facility in Haaksbergen. By applying Vision AI technology, materials on an existing sorting line will be automatically recognized and classified. This provides real-time insight into the composition of waste streams and enables better separation of valuable materials before they are lost in the processing chain.
Smarter sorting with Vision AI
The waste sector is facing significant challenges. Increasing labor shortages, rising operational costs, and growing demand for high-quality recycling require innovation. Ortessa and Code for Good share the belief that the solution lies not only in robotics, but in intelligent software and AI models that can transform existing processes in a scalable way.
Using Code for Good’s Vision AI infrastructure, various material streams — including wood, plastics, PVC, gypsum, film, metals, and rubble — are automatically identified on the sorting belt. This creates an objective and scalable way to analyze and optimize waste streams.
Martien van Eersel, Business Development Manager at Ortessa, explains:
“This aligns perfectly with Ortessa’s direction. We strongly believe in the power of AI and data to accelerate innovation.”
Marcel Kokhuis, Managing Director of Langezaal, adds:
“With the right insights, you can act quickly and make better decisions. We value speed and insight and want to steer on quality, which fits well with the culture at Code for Good.”
“The future of the waste sector lies in self-learning systems that continuously improve,” says Stefan van Vugt, Commercial Director at Code for Good. “By adding Vision AI to existing processes, we create valuable insights. This project demonstrates how AI not only increases efficiency but also directly contributes to circularity.”
Scalable foundation for further innovation
The initial step at Langezaal forms the foundation for a broader rollout of AI-driven waste processing within Ortessa. By collecting data and continuously improving AI models, a scalable foundation is created that can be implemented across multiple locations.
